Before and After

I have been holding on to a pair of prints I ordered from Etsy for over a year now just waiting to find the right frames at the right price for them.  I have kept my eyes peeled for fun pair of vintage frames, but that's hard to come by sometimes.  Well, I finally came across a sale at Michael's that was too good to be true!
I got two of these fairly ornate frames for $13 each, and a pair of new, plain white mats for a couple dollars each.  The gold is not really my style, but I knew they would have the right look when painted white.

Much different, right?  I love the way they turned out!  I like to use a little trick to make small prints appear more substantial.  These prints measured 8x10, I then added an 11x14 mat and frame to give a larger appearance.  The prints are on the contemporary side, and the frames have a nice traditional feel.  I like playing around with mixing the two styles together.

A master bedroom update coming soon!!

I'm back with a bedroom plan

This winter has run me ragged(in a good way) and I am finally back to share some plans for a much needed master bedroom touch-up.  We've had the same quilt for too many years now, so my sweet husband agreed to get me a new duvet for Christmas, which then of course got the ball rolling for a few other spruce-ups!

Here's a little refresher of what my bedroom looks like:

I got rid of those awful, dated lamps long ago.  I did a post about the new lamps I had picked up.  I was worried that they were too "white" next to my off white cane headboard, but the more I lived with them, the more I couldn't give them up.  So they stayed and here they are now:

The more I live with them, the more I love how "mismatched" they are in comparison to the headboard.  So now the next layer is the new bedding.  I don't have a current photo of the bedding on my bed, but it's there!  Here's the actual bedding so you can imagine it:

I got the pink colorway and I love it!!  It's a Lilly Pulitzer duvet from Garnet Hill.  No longer available and I had to wait a month for the backorder to finally arrive.  I will say it was a bit shocking when I first got it, but I've grown to really enjoy the bright, happy print and it is super comfy and warm.  I also added these amazingly soft Kate Spade sheets to the bedding ensemble(love them!):

I ordered this gorgeous boho print from a great etsy artist (here) I plan to frame in a vintage painted frame I have had hanging around for the longest time.
I love the colors and she has so many other whimsical prints I have to have!

Last on the list of things to do is new window treatments.  This is the most exciting because I am a firm believer that window treatments will change the whole feel of a room.  It's the icing on the cake.  I chose this pink and white ikat-ish(not a word but you get it) print.  It's bright and cheerful, but still has a little bit of a modern flair as well.

So that's the plan!  Can't wait for it to all come together.  In other news, I've got tons of new goodies in the shop now!  Start thinking spring, it'll be here before we know it!  Thank goodness.

A vintage Christmas and a little reveal

So I still have not put up any more Christmas decorations because there has just been no time, but I did manage to snap a few pictures of my minimal displays.  My tree is still half decorated so I will wait to share that til it's done(which may be after Christmas at the rate we're going).

Over the years I have collected many beautiful vintage glass ornaments.  I usually display them in a huge collection of apothecary jars as the centerpiece of my farmhouse table, but this year I kept it simple in one jar in my kitchen.

I have the huge vintage pink glass pick, that fits just perfectly in a vintage planter also in my kitchen.

I love how the colors of these ornaments all work with my vintage plate wall.

I am happy to report that I finally got drawer pulls to put on this cabinet!  Woohoo!

My last little display is a collection of vintage style glittery houses and bottle brush trees I put on top of my armoire.

Last, I have a little hardwood floor reveal.  This is the first time I have shared my family room with you guys.  The funny thing is that we spent all that time installing hardwood floors, only to cover them up with an area rug!  Remember the Dash and Albert rug I blogged about?  The sofas aren't my favorite thing in the room, but about 6 years ago I had them custom made and spent a pretty penny on them so they will have to stick around for a while.  It's funny how our tastes can change so quickly.

I need to paint the base and refinish the top of my coffee table now that my rug is green.  The two greens don't match so I will probably go with a creamy white.

Hope your holiday shopping and decorating is going well!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas

Tuesday, my husband and I finally had the chance to take a day for ourselves.  It was much needed "us" time.  What did we decide to do with "our" time, you ask?  Well, we climbed up a ladder to which we both have a horrible fear of hights and hung our Christmas lights! Yes, very exciting here, people.  We keep it fairly simple, but still want a little festive cheer, so we use the icicle lights on our roof and wrap the porch in pre-lit green garland and green topiary pre-lit trees.

If I were a little more courageous I would try to put the lights on our dormer windows, but I really value my life more than that ;)

We also pulled out our tree, and spent about an hour trying to figure out what section of lights plugs into what.  After failing miserably, pulled out the goold ol' extension cord and plugged in all the leftover plugs and voila!  We had a lit tree.  I then pulled out about 1/8th of our usual Christmas decorations and called it a day.  I might get around to adding a few more things to the decor, but for now this is as good as it's going to get.

I will share the tree and decorations another day.  How's your holiday decorating going?  Do you go all out or keep it simple?  Do you put lights up outside?  I'd love to hear about it!
